Description

Schwinn Vintage Balloon Era Triple Speed New Departure Gears. Working, sturdy, complete with shifter but no cable, surface rust. Hub shell is for storage - install into any New Departure Model D hub shell in a laced rear wheel. Shifter release is shortened but workable with a small piece of vinyl tube to smooth out the sharp edge. Includes the tiny chain that pulls the gears for shifting. This one looks different from stock and seems to cross thread a little, but it hangs on firmly and works against the fairly strong pull of the internal gears. No cable - a modern cable could work with some tweaking or some Schwinn early cables are available on line. I've seen the prewar repro cables, not sure about the Triple-Speed cable.
